London, England -- npower’s support of Macmillan’s World’s
Biggest Coffee Morning (WBCM) has been awarded the
prestigious 2007 Hollis Sponsorship Award in the Charity
and Community category, pipping three other nominations to
the post. The presentation was at London’s Savoy Hotel
earlier this evening.
The
WBCM campaign is the third in which npower has been
closely involved. The award recognises the company’s
long-term partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support and
its active engagement of staff and customers, raising
awareness and funds across all 60 npower sites in the UK.
The subsequent 10% increase in consumer recognition of the
npower brand and four per cent increase in the number of
customers who believe npower is ‘putting something back
into the community’ were appreciated by the judges as
valuable business benefits for npower, one of the UK’s
leading energy providers.
One of the most successful facets of the campaign has been
the extensive staff involvement achieved year-on-year.
Each year, staff motivation is critical both to the
success of the campaign and the fund-raising (around
£180,000 has been donated to the charity through WBCM
since 2004). Activities including head-shaves, fancy-dress
cricket matches, themed cake bakes, coffee quizzes and a
‘scrap heap challenge’ for engineers – machines to carry a
cup of coffee safely and securely were designed and
created – have encouraged npower employees to get involved
in the event and have fun doing so.
Carol Hart, npower’s community involvement manager,
collected the award saying: “We’re delighted to win. It’s
wonderful recognition of what is achieved by npower staff
and customers. This year, we are also principal sponsor of
the charity’s Walk Wonders event.”
